CEDO: Empowering Farmers with Quality Bean Seeds for a Sustainable Future

Community Enterprises Development Organization (CEDO) is a member-based, indigenous non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2000. CEDO was started to focus on the implementation of grassroots development needs identified by the beneficiaries. CEDO is registered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and operates in the south western and central regions of Uganda in the districts of Masaka, Rakai, Lyantonde, Bukomansimbi, Lwengo, Kalungu, Kyotera, Sembabule, Kiboga, Mubende, Mityana and Kassanda. CEDO was formed in August, 2000 and registered as a non governmental organization Ministry of Internal affairs no SN 3375, CEDO is a membership organization.

CEDO is a fully-fledged registered seed company moving over 100 metric tons of bean seed annually, CEDO engages more than 5,000 farming households within 9 districts in central and southern Uganda. In its operational area, CEDO offers services to members in the form of; training in good agricultural practices (GAP), provision of planting materials, and provides transportation for seed and ensuring that all the qualified seed is certified.
CEDO links up with NARO/NaCRRI breeders to access breeder seeds of the improved demanded bean varieties with the corresponding technical advice that come along with the seed of the new varieties.

NAROBEAN 1 “Masavu”

Kidney shaped, greyish with black stripes, locally known as “Masavu”. These beans are high yield and marketing ready.

NAROBEAN 2 “Nambaale Omumpi”

These are red round beans with white stripes,early maturing, high yielding, palatable, and highly marketable.

NAROBEAN 3 “Yellow Beans”

Narobean 3 locally know as Yellow is a round yellow bean. They are high yielding and have a high market demand and palatable as well.

NAROBEAN 6 “Wayirimu”

Also know as “Wairimu” These are small seeded red kidney beans,they are drought tolerant and high yielding.

Also called “Nambaale Long”, these are red long beans with white stripes,high yielding,drought tolerant and highly palatable
